The former may work if the video output is compatible with it.

The latter may have a tuner and other stuff.

It all depends on what your signal source is and the capabilities of the software that is supplied with them.

Sometimes it's a lot of work to find information, and sometimes people here are busy
with other issues and don't have time to look for information.
But in all cases. It is extremely helpful if you identify what devices are involved by
make and model number. We can look those up. Your question is generic, and I
don't know how we can provide specific help.
Is this like a oscilloscope or spectrum analyzer output to another device?
a video output, an analog or digital output? And what about the input to the recording device?
Can you see the problem we have in answering your question?

The source is a monitor with a BNC output.
I need to capture the video and record it.

Can you help me with it?

What is the signal coming out of that BNC port? That is the first thing you need to know.

RCA output

In the IMG_0495
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68657058/IMG_0495.JPG)
you can see the two monitors I have.
Each of them shows the outputs from, respectively, the two cameras located on the eye tracker.

In the IMG_0494
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68657058/IMG_0494.JPG)
, you can see the output (a BNC with a RCA adapted jack) of the monitor displaying what the participant actually sees. I need to capture and record that output.

I hope I have been enough clear for you to understand.

I think I cannot use the VGA port on my laptop as an input port. I need a USB capture device with a composite connection.
So..do you think that a thing like that may work?

Thanks for your precious support!

That device you show last can handle composite video.

Just by looking at the front of the monitors and the plug you use, I cannot tell if that signal is composite video.

You need to look on the camera or on the monitor for a specification (preferably from the camera) of the type of video signal it produces. The danger in looking for these specs on the monitor is that if the monitor can handle more than one video format, you still won't know what it is.
