I have an in-car camera that requires signal from an electret microphone.

I also have a Peltor amplifier we use for communication between driver and co-driver.

The Peltor amp has an RCA outout for a video camera. I have used a RCA male to 2.5mm mono plug cable but get no or almost no sound from the headsets. Do I also need either an amplifier for the RCA signal or a way of trimming the voltage down to electret mic level.

What would the signal voltage output be for RCA?

And what signal voltage does an electret mic output?Cheers Thirsty.

The nominal signal for normal speech varies depending on the sensitivity of the electret element. A starting point for a design is about 5 mV rms. Can you confirm that the 2.5 mm input is mic or line level?

The cable I use is RCA Male at the intercom amplifier end. RCA out
The other end is 2.5mm Mono plug. The camera manufacturer says to use an electret mic with a 2.5mm plug for the camera.
I wish to get the intercom voices from the Peltor intercom amplifier into the camera..

What are you plugging the 2.5 jack into?
What Peltor amp is it. Model?
What camera? I don't know why the manufaturer says to use an eletret mic.
The AUX out would be audio only.

EDIT: The camera has a shotgun style electret mic input.
Does it say 'mic' in or audio in?

The FM120 is my model Peltor. The AUX out is a RCA socket.

The camera is

The tech people at AEE told me the 2.5mm socket accepts signal from an electret mic as an exterior mic.
It has a 2.5mm socket in the side for the exterior mic. I wish to get our conversation from the Peltor amp into the AEE Magicam.
The Magicam has a lid over the mic socket which has Audio in and A/V out as the descriptor. The A/V cable that comes with the camera has a white RCA plug mono, and yellow RCA plug video for connection to a television.
I understand the aux out is audio only
Cheers Ross
Wouldusing pins two and three in the PTT socket be an option?

Hi Ross, for some reason the camera link wont open.
Without seeing the specs on the camera it is difficult to say.
Have you tried the AUX out from the amp to the audio in on the camera
rather than using the RCA?
The small voltage differences might be the key.
Worth a try.
I will try and find your camera later.
