Hey, I have been playing with this idea lately of getting a device that will play a sound at certain intervals. It would be awesome to have the option of having a computer voice that is digitally generated or maybe an audio track loaded into the system. My thought is that I put everything together and do any necissary programming then hide the device in different places. Does anyone know if there is a microcontroller or anything that I could use for this? Also if there are any schematics avaliable it would definitly be helpful to see them. It has been a really long time since I have designed a circuit.

If you want small and discrete, have a look at the ISD1820. It may have cousins by now. I have not looked in a while.
Multiple track, recorder, playback.
eg
https://www.instructables.com/id/HOW-TO-USE-ISD1820-VOICE-RECORDER-AND-PLAYER/

Some have made these sorts of thing light-sensitive, to make finding it more difficult.
Generally a micro capable of sound will start getting bigger.
If you want smarter, possibly along with an ISD device, people use a variety including PIC or ATtiny.

Thanks for the input. I feel that this will be a good place for me to start with designing this project.
