The multimeter read the red wire is positive
What is the voltage at the micro USB connector with no load connected? Sometimes the output voltage of a not well designed power supply may be much higher than the nominal value when no load is connected. If you then connect this supply to a load, the output voltage will drop to the nominal value but the initial value being too hihj may already have caused havoc.

That is reasonable and no cause for concern.

Yes I did as per my photo post #15
It is getting confusing: the image in post #15 shows a white wire, not a black one.

@Fractus : help us sort this out:
  • How many wires are in that cable from the power supply?
  • What are the colors of these cables?
  • How did you connect the cables to the micro USB plug?
  • If there are more than 2 wires in the cable, have you swapped any of them?
  • Which measurements have you made and what were the results?

Please give us a comprehensive and concise explanation. It is hard to follow along when information comes piecewise and partly contradictory.

1. There are two wires from the power supply - see post #15 (white wire replaces black I presume......please note I'm new to electronics)
2. The only colours from power supply are red and white.
3. Connection of cable to micro USB see post #15.
4. Cannot understand your comment on measurements !!!

Thanks!!!
