12 Volt Fan Speed Controller

Hello Forum, Re my recent post asking guidance for controlling the speed of a 12 volt fan. I found a basic circuit which I made a diagram of. See my uploaded image. The circuit consists of a IRFZ44N MOSFET and a 10K potentiometer. Firstly, will this work and secondly is this circuit considered to be PWM? Regards, Sunjumper.Circuit 01.PNG

This type of power MOSFET is designed for switching operation. The circuit you show operates the MOSFET as a linear component. This can quickly destroy the MOSFET due to local overheating of the silicon structure.
