Hello everyone!
Brand new member here, and I've got a small problem with my E-MU 0404 PCI Soundcard.
The card worked fine up until I shorted the microphone input.
I heard a bunch of clicks/pops and now, whenever I try to record in my audio app, I get the original signal (my voice from mic), along with an annoying hiss.
I've tried the card in another PC, and it does the same thing.
I suspect it's a blown capacitor but that's just a guess.
The card works fine otherwise. It's just when I try to record from either input I get the hiss.
I've purchased a capacitor tester and it should get here on Wednesday.

I guess my question is should I just take each cap out and check them individually?
Or is there an easier way?
Is it a good chance that my suspicion is right in the first place?

Thanks guys!
Hope to hear from someone soon!

Shorting the Mic Input should cause no harm.
Something else has happened, a co-incidence.
Or that shorting involved some external voltage feed.

Hey guys! Thanks for the responses.
I use a Tube mic. So I've got power wires mixed with the output at the end of the mic. If I jiggle the connection, that's when it pops and clicks. I know... I need to fix that too. =(
When I first heard the popping, they sounded really loud in the headphones, so I'm going to assume some type of power jumped the wires and damaged the input somehow.

Then I'd guess high voltage got where it shouldn't and damaged the sound-card.
Thanks. That's what I said from the beginning. I'm assuming the voltage spike damaged a cap or two and was wondering if my suspicions are correct. If I test each cap on the board, I should find the bad one right?
