Good day everyone.

I run a small time computer repair shop where I also repair consoles and other basic electronics.
The other day a regular client of mine came to my shop with his Yamaha M-50 receiver, asking if I could help out finding a replacement for a safety capacitor that had blown in his receiver and help replace it for him. Thing is, the safety capacitor that has blown is a Rifa safety capacitor which, from what I've seen, tends to burst with quite a bit of force. This time the damage was minimal and contained to the cap. itself with a bit of spilled electrolytes to clean up but next time it might cause more damage. For this reason I don't want to replace it with the exact same capacitor if I can avoid it.

Seeing as audio is not my strong point, I would like to ask of you kind folks if you could help me out with suggesting a different brand safety capacitor to replace the original one with.
here are pictures of all sides of the safety capacitor:

Any X2 class capacitor should suffice.
275Vac - 0.1μF or similar.
Providing it was across the mains input.

Thank you for the info.
Any brand/series you recommend? I want to make sure the audio quality remains top notch.
Rick.

I’m no audiophile and don’t believe the hype in £1000 RCA cables.
Having said that, MKP are mentioned a lot on audio forums.
Have a look here.
Your original Rifa are renown for problems. Yours is a 0.22μF so get the same capacitance if you can.

@Martaine2005 @davenn

would this one be a good option? its the only x2 class .22pF film capacitor I could find that has the closest match to the lead spacing of the original rifa one. (+/- 20mm)

Hi and sorry for no reply. My internet was down.
Yes, that’s fine. But I’m sure that you’ve already got it sorted by now.
