Hi! I just found a video that is about 4 years old on how to make an inverter using a 555 and 4017 IC. I want to know whether this would work with an input of around 16v and a 7.6 - 0 - 7.6v transformer. And can u say me why there is a 220-ohm resistor in the gate of the MOSFET? Here is the video link -
Here is the transformer I have :

These are the batteries I use - http://www.hybrids.co.nz/battery-specs/
I waiting for a quick reply.

Hello,

Here is the schematic from the video:
poor inverter schematic.png

There are no gate resistors in this schematic, but usualy there are resistors between 10 and 220 Ohms in series with the gate to reduce the gate peak current.
The NE555 is rated for 15 Volts, so 16 volts is to high.
Reduce the voltage for the NE555 and 4017 to 12 Volts to be safe.
Also when using an 7.6 volts transformer, the output voltage will be higher.

How can I reduce the voltage to 12 can I use a 7812 transistor and provide direct 16v to the centre of the transformer maximum voltage of the NE555P handle is 16v and the CD4017BE can handle up to 18v.

Hello,

Yes, but use a 2 X 15 Volts transformer.
The output voltage will be about double you want using the 7.6 Volts transformer.
Also the output voltage will not be regulated and drop when the battery voltage drops.
