Hi all,
I want to make a convertor to step up the voltage from 12vdc to 19vdc to
power my laptop. The mains adaptor I have for the laptop is rated 19vdc and
3.16A. Thefore I want to step-up the voltage from the 12vdc boat supply to
19vdc with a capacity of 3.16A max current.
Do you have a circuit or what other options do I have?

Thanks
Colin

Caution! Your laptop is going to be the test for your project. Check the
manufacturer for a 12v adaptor. I know sometimes they are expensive, but how
much would it cost to replace your laptop?

What if it was available ready-made for under US$30?

Universal DC laptop adapter on eBay for US$26.24 (Buy It Now):

I have one of these that works OK with a Compaq Presario 900 series laptop.

A Google search with the following terms
laptop power adapter 19 volt auto
should find what you want.

www.powerstream.com has adapters specific to your laptop model for US$80.

Hello
I have made 3 DC/DC converters for a car or boat with no trubble at all.
Just connect to National web and webench and specify your needs. It will
sugest a circuit and you can print the chematic and make a termo test. It is
a fantastic web sight.
