Hello All;
I just finished this circuit and it seems to be working well.
It is a very simple build but I have a question, if you look at the schematic you will
see two Diodes (1N4007) in series. Being a newbie can someone please explain
their function and why they are used in the device?

Thank you

Each diode has ~0.6 V forward voltage. 2 diodes sum up to ~1.2 V. This is used to limit the voltage across the capacitor and NiCd cell to ~1.2 V.

Note that this circuit is directly connected to mains! This is not a safe circuit if there is any chance that the output (to wall clock) can be touched. As the wall clock is obviously designed to be operated from a battery, it will provide no safety relevant insulation at all.

Do not use this circuit in this application!

Are you seeking to posthumously win a Darwin Award with your project? Or perhaps, win one for a friend or family member?
