Hi, I'm a 59 year old man with hearing difficulties.
I have a 224 in electronics so I sort of know how things work.
To get to the question,I needed a headphone amplifier above 1 watt per channel as the little valve amp I purchased is not powerful enough for my hearing,so I decided to build one using the tda2822m on prototype PCB,I purchased a passive tone control kit and it works fantastic, however ,the 3.5mm socket's I bought leave a lot to be desired,I need some robust socket's not rubbish as I seemingly have purchased ,thank you in advance and hope you can point me in the right direction for some good socket's

I will be rebuilding it using an active tone control and balance circuit, mainly to improve the loss from the passive tone control and to make everything smaller on one board,so I really need quality socket's that last for more than 10 inserts,I'm so mad cause I glued the board's down to the project box so I can't replace the socket's.
I have an order for some single copper PCB and ferric chloride ,I have an etching pen ect but still confused about the best socket's

Normal approach to decent parts is to get them from say RSComponents or similar in your country.
Anything from Ebay etc. is simply trash.
Just looked in RS and they have a wide range of 3.5mm pcb mount sockets at reasonable cost.

Thankyou, I'll try rs to find what I need.
I've not done electronics for year's but my hearing and lockdown plus subtitles made me build my amp,I enjoyed it to be honest, still I can't make out the actor's that whisper while music is over the voice.
I made lots of stuff in my earlier day's underwater metal detector, dry battery charger before one was on the market,el34 valve amp, ect, it's surprising how much memory you loseae

I would post a pic but as I'm new it's not allowed

It's allowed
If you tried and failed then it was probably because the image was too big

Resize pic's to 800x600 max and 100kb max

The most problems with 3.5mm sockets are had using old stock (tarnished contacts) or generic chinese (weak spring metal), though personally I hate any of them when surface mount, as it is just too easy for a headphone cable to yank too hard, or be bumped, and tear a solder pad off so I prefer to only use panel mount 3.5mm if I must use any.

However, the more traditional approach to a more robust socket is to move up to a 1/4", and of course, cans with 1/4" plug, but even if you have to use a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter, if that adapter wears out it can be so much more easily swapped than your soldered on socket is.

Neutrik is one 1/4" socket (aka jack) brand that is well regarded.

Thanks,I never thought about 1/4 socket's, maybe that's the way to go with my new circuit,I will have to use adapters as my headphones are 3.5.
My headphones are audio technica m20x monitor phones and are perfect for my deafness

I've sorrta got away with the problem by building up solder on the input 3.5mm plug, the middle ,the input was problematic so now I've fixed it for the time being I'll just leave it plugged in until I have finished my new version based on the LM1036 tone /balance and volume chip using the tda2822 as output not forgetting to use 6.35mm socket's and hopefully that will do the job I'm aiming for.
Thankyou for the help

Has anyone got any experience with the lm1036 cause I want to run it on 9v DC and specs state 12 to16v,I'm sure it will be ok because I found some obscure post whereby someone used it with 9v,other than that is there something other to use fulfilling my requirements, active tone/volume and balance using 9v DC
Thanks
