New to this forum so thanks for allowing me in.

I have a covert earpiece for my personal radio & I want to replace the little speaker (the clear in ear tube attaches to it)

What I want to do is to replace the speaker with a 3.5mm female socket. Would I need a 3 or 4 pole socket & is it doable???

Can you give a link or post a photo of yours?.
The air tube is not important here, just the radio connector and anything else connected inbetween the speaker.
Does it have a mic or PTT switch inline?.
what is the reason for doing this?

Hi Martin & thanks for your reply :)

I can't post an image from my phone but I'll describe it best I can

The ptt has one wire going to my radio & another going to the small speaker.

I'm an avid airsofter & some games I play requires a radio. I have a set of electronic ear defenders which I can connect to my radio. So the idea is to do away with the small speaker so I can then connect my ear defenders to the ptt.

Hello,

Set you phone to a lowest resolution, so that pictues of about 300 kB will be made.
Then you shoeld be able to post pictures.

Do you mean a cable with more than one conductor (wire) inside the insulation (sheath)?.
The radio ear piece is mono, are your ear defenders mono or stereo?.
The short answer is yes you can add a connector. You can simply ‘extend’ the existing wiring to the ear defenders.
but you can buy stereo to mono 3.5mm connectors that already have a PMR ear/mic connector.
Your covert speaker may be 100Ω and your defenders may be 8Ω.
So check what you have first.
