48V is usually known as phantom power. Found on audio mixers and professional mixing desks.

But the difference you ask :
One is positive and the other is negative.
Can you elaborate on your question?

Hello,

The +48 Volts is 48 volts positive related to ground potential.
The -48 Volts is 48 Volts negative related to ground potential.

And then sometimes you will find a power supply input labeled "48 V" with a "+" on one input and a "-" on the second input. In this case the voltage is 48 V and the indicators are there to show you the correct polarity.
As @Martaine2005 asked: please be more specific, show us photos of the input in question, if possible.
