What is the advantage of 64 ohm speakers over the more traditional
8 ohm speakers. Do we need higher voltages to operate them, as
power = V^2/R

They need higher voltage but lower current for a given power output.
If you want to drive a speaker from an opamp output, a 64 ohm speaker
is a much better match to the available voltage and current than an 8
ohm one.

Do you mean some sort of power opamp. Normal opamps give about
10mA, which will not be enough even for a minature 64ohm speaker, I
believe.

If you hold it to your ear, (as in a cell phone) you might be
surprised at how loud it is. It won't replace your stereo.
