Hello,

I have found the configuration, comprising D2, R2 and C2 in the following circuit. It seems that adding D2 is for suppressing the primary side inductor kickback. However, does shorting the diode cause the primary coil to lack current? Will shorting the diode improve any protection when the MOSFET turns-on also? (since kickback occurs when the MOSFET turns-off)

Normally the snubber would be a resistor in series with a capacitor, but generally there is only one suppression device needed, the diode or the R/C circuit.
The R/C parallel configuration characteristics is opposite to the series type.
