AC Generator Winding

Greetings:

This question concerns the wire size used in the stator. My original plan
called for #20 AWG magnet wire but, I was thinking that I could use a
smaller diameter wire to increase the voltage above 120vac (more turns) and
then step the output down to 120vac. My only concern here is how will this
effect the generator as far as the demand for current from the load? I
would like the generator to handle a 10 amp load.

There is likely no point in doing that.

There is nothing to be gained and the transformer losses to lose. You
will need larger wire than 22 ga to carry 10 amperes, especially when
it is packed into a coil.
