Hello
I need help. can we control ac motor pump using microcontroller ? If yes then how to control ac motor pump? what I need , relay or motor driver Ic. motor pump run for 3 minute than turn off for 2 minute, do the task continuously

A suitable relay is a good starting point. It is a safe nethod as the relay isolates the power circuit from the control circuit. Lifetime of the circuit will b esomewhat limited due the limited number of switching cycles a mechanical relay has.
A solid state relay (SSR) is an alternative which doesn't suffer such limitations.

Some of the wood pellet stove controllers I have worked on use a TRIAC isolated from the microcontroller by an opto-isolator to turn on the feed auger for preset periods depending on what setting the stove is on. They also use them to control the fan speeds as well.

That is essentially a solid state relay, though it may be realized discretely, not as a single component.

One that fits:
  • max. current required by the motor/pump (with some spare for a safety margin)
  • max. operating voltage (with some spare for a safety margin)
  • your purse (with some spare to support living) ;)

pump motor
SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Power rating : 0.37kW/0.5 Hp
  • Pipe Size : 25*25 Suction & Delivery
  • Voltage range : 180 to 240 Volts
  • Head : 6 to 28 meters
please look at Relay http://www.shopclues.com/relay-12v.html?gclid=CNXUxJWvxsgCFVgVjgodLvoD9w&gclsrc=aw.ds

Is it suitable for that pump motor ?

You have all the data of the motor, compare with the data of the relay. Where is your doubt?

I just asked for confirmation and safety. I have no doubt, the specification of relay match with pump water requirement

1/2hp single phase motor about 5 or 6 amp full load....allow 4 to 6 times starting instantaneous current so 20 amp relay should do fine.

can we interface relay directly to 8051 port
This is not recommended due to current consumption and possible flyback voltage from teh relay coil. Use a transistor in between.

I would tend to use a 2n7000 for Q1, also for that small a relay you may want to use a R/C snubber across the contacts.

how to interface the Relay to microcontroller (8051)?
Relay has 5 pins I don’t understand how to interface relay to 8051.I found below image. I think I have to do same as showing in circuit
pin 2 connected to port pin of mcu
pin 3 connected to ground

where to connect two wire of water pump ?

Using the 2n7000 imposes no load on the μp port, it is designed to interface with 5v circuitry.

As mentioned, 2n7000
The motor is fed direct with the neutral and the live conductor is switched by one pair of N.O. contacts. Live in - motor out.
See fig 2 you can eliminate the LED and resistor if not needed.
