Part of a project I am designing includes using a regular wall type AC outlet as well as USB ports for charging handheld devices. I have seen this available in newer wall outlets, and would like to include this in my design. I understand ac/dc conversion and using a voltage regulator to obtain a steady 5 volts power for the USB port. I would like to make the circuit as small as possible and include surge/circuit protection. I was unable to find any relevent schematics to my design. Does anyone have any suggestions aside from buying one of these outlets and reverse engineering it?
