I use either my Mossberg Model 500 12 ga. pump-action, pistol-gripped, alley-sweeper;

or my Colt M1911 Government Model .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol for protection.

Failing that, my wife uses her backup Ruger SR9 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

However, none of this worked when someone recently stole the window air conditioner from our house in Dayton, Ohio, because we are currently living in a low-crime neighborhood in Venice, Florida.

Looking at the OP's address information, it could be likely that "coil" may have intended to be "cold" in which case (if correct) the OP need only apply a removable, insulated, exterior cover to the window air conditioner during the winter. What this has to do with this forum is anyone's guess. One could also remove the air conditioner from the window during the winter months, or cover it on the inside of the house with heat-shrink plastic film temporarily applied over the window. The latter is the approach we took until our air conditioner was stolen.
