I have a car amp I am trying to fix. I have found a bad capacitor and resistor that are next to one another and found place that looks burned up near a resistor and a mosfet. do you think this might be my only problem or what would have made these things go bad?

your guess is as good as ours ;)

how about a pic or 2 (nice and sharp) of the circuit board in the damaged area
one top side and one bottom side of the board

do you have a cct diag?, what is the make and model of the amplifier ?

You can bet whatever semiconductor the current passed through that burned-up your resistor, is toast too. At the very least, trace the resistor leg of your circuit to that semiconductor.

One of those tracks looks broken. Is it possible that the damage and heating are due to this and not the components on the other side?

Did you show us the components on the other side? No. That would be really good too.

Most of the time in these amplifiers and devices, when there are burned components there are usually other associated devices that are also damaged. All the faulty components must be replaced before power is applied back to the unit. If there are any other faulty components, the new replacements could be damaged.
