Hi all, I would like to annoy someone when they are watching tv in my
house, its basically a joke circuit that will change the tv channels and
volume at random times to annoy them!

I want it to be a circuit which is not connected to the tv, so it would have
to control the tv by IR.

Can anyone help me design this?
I would really appreciate it!

And maybe if it could be triggered by me, then that wold be good as well!

Thanks
Scott

Search for a watch with a built-in TV remote control.
You'd be fiddling with you watch.

If you have a Palm PDA, get Novi Remote or similar and the scripting tools that
come with pEdit. Then you can script a series of actions and just leave the
Palm pointing toward the TV.

Alternately, get a "remote extender" and put the receiver in another room. Then
you can use a remote in the other room to change the status of the TV.

How about one of those universal remote controls somehow connected to a 555
timer?

Thanks

So simple it's pathetic. Go buy a $8 replacement remote control.
Then solder a reed relay (so it can't be heard) across the button to
change channels. Run the wire from the coil of the relay to a 9V
battery and pushbutton switch somewhere convenient. Program the
remote for your make of TV and hide it somewhere that's within range
of the TV. Kick back and wait to have some fun.

If you want to have some real fun, build a circuit with some 555s that
delays the change so that you an conveniently leave the room and go to
the fridge before it changes. Or if you really wanna get tricky, make
a circuit that is voice actuated so that a high-pitched or ultrasonic
sound triggers the relay. Or a light, or whatever or a combination of
these.

Another idea is to build a 555 that drives an IR LED that's pointed at
the TV, so that it blocks out the regular reemote control. You set
the channel where you want it, and no one can change it. I think that
project is on www.wenzel.com.
Thanks
Scott

I don't like this watch remote. The IR LED uses a whole lot of
current, and the watch has a single button cell, which will get run
down rapidly. Besides, you have to aim the watch's LED at the TV and
that gives you away.

You can mod an IR remote control to be remotely controlled in
various ways like at the below link.
