Yeah but he's got a reason - he's an Aussie!

An optical engineer and his American wife that worked with me went
back to Australia after being RIF'd. His wife after being there after
a bit realized that it's not her husband that gruff, it's all Aussies.
Just part of the culture. 'Mates' great each other with a "F-off".

They are very strange ppl.

The last Alpha Male will doubtless be Aussie.

Because I'm not worried about shielding. I'm worried about reflections
due to impedance mismatch creating visible distortion in the video
signal.

So try it and see if the mismatches DO create visible distortion. In any
case, while you can't afford the insertion loss of proper matching pads,
a strategically-placed resistor or two can help a lot in some cases.

Yup, and you can always turn up the brightness control to suit.

Hello Reg,
Consruction is the most simple imaginable.
Just wind a few turns around a ferrite ring.

Ahem, if you are talking about a frequency range of 10:1 it is simple.
But for a really wide frequency range it's more complicated. Number of
twists, how they are arranged around the circle of the core and, most of
all, the core itself. The core often has to be a specialty version like
tape wound material etc.

I have seen transformers that were perfected by wee little tweaks of the
wires by means of plastic pliers. Work and work until it looks just
right on the analyzer. It's like tuning the engine of a classic sports
car. "Only uncle Leroy knows how to do that".

Regards, Joerg
