Hi, I am wondering of anyone is able to help me explain this circuit. I have a brief idea on how it works, but not 100%. its going to be presented in a 5 minute slide show, so around a 30 second explanation would be great, thanks!

Hello Eoin
Why are you doing this? Job interview is it? Why would you be asked to do this? can someone turn it up the right way, its difficult to follow on its side.
Thanks Adam

So it looks like its either charging or discharging. If you dont press the discharge butoon it will charge, is this correct?

I thought It had an automatic discharge, so would start discharge, then switch to charge once battery is flat

it did say it has an automatic discharge and charge

so in that it will detect when the voltage has dropped to a predetermined level

Looks like it work the other way. When you press the switch it latches A2 which starts to discharge the battery, when the battery voltage has gone low enough set by resistors at the bottom of the circuit diagram then A1 resets the discharge circuit and the timer via C2. The timer will also timeout after a certain time also. After a quick look thats what I think. I will need more time to be sure.

Hi Eoin
I have looked at the circuit again and yes it looks like it discharges the battery first before charging. The reason for this is because it does not have any other termination method other than a timer. If you placed a fully charged battery on this circuit you could end up damaging the battery after 14hours or 52 minutes of charge if it didn't discharge first.
Thanks
Adam
