I am new to working with electronics and am looking for some start up equipment. I looked online a little to get an idea about some items such as soldering stations. I see there are a lot of different ones out there and a very large price range. I don't want to get very basic items and then once I progress, find out that my equipment isn't suited for my needs and then have to re purchase it. At least not right away. I would like to get some decently price equipment that is of good quality and can be used for a multitude of different things. I guess what I need to know is, is there a section on this forum that has reviews / recommendations of equipment?

ANY advice is welcomed,

Thanks

I personally highly recommend the house branded solder stations from http://www.circuitspecialists.com/

There basic http://www.circuitspecialists.com/csi-station1a.html solder station is a work horse that has served me well for many many years of professional everyday use... I also have http://www.circuitspecialists.com/csi906.html SMD rework station that again has served me for years upon years...

If name brand is your game, don't bother but if you want A LOT of bang for your dollar, I will put these cheap models up against much more expensive units any day of the year...

FYI I have used very high end solder stations, top of the line name brand ones in fact so I'm familiar with both ends of the spectrum...
