I’ve been working on a suit for manned flight (you might have already heard about it) that uses six turbo engines instead of a traditional jetpack…
Wondering what your thoughts are on the best connectors? For background, we dabbled with screw-coupling DIN connectors which, while ok from an electrical point of view, are quite large and heavy. The screw-coupling design can’t be described as ‘quick release’ either and they’re of a standard commercial grade that isn’t designed for repeated mating/un-mating cycles.
I looked at the B series from LEMO as it's slim, long-lived, robust and quick release. Just one setback, the shell is manufactured from chrome-plated brass, which is not light. LEMO’s F-series is designed for the kind of weight-critical, demanding applications you'd find in racing cars or aviation. They use the same small screw-machined contacts as the B series and features an aluminium alloy shell that’s slim and short, keeping weight to a minimum.
What’s everyone’s thoughts? Would you have used the LEMO F-series connector? Any others that we could have tried?
I’d also be keen to know whether anyone has ever tried a jet pack project before, so we can all share our experiences!
