I have an old beta machine. It will play the tape, but not in color - suggestions or fixes would be appreciated. I have my 83 year old uncle, with multiple myeloma cancer working on it, but.... These are old tapes of days in Disney, etc..., with his niece and nephew. He would really enjoy watching these old tapes. Is it the tape being old or the machine???? Any help would be appreciated.

Is the picture otherwise nice & sharp (not grainy, no noise)?
If noisy it could be just the heads needing cleaning, if nice the color circuits could be out of alignment.
Does it deliver color when tuning a channel through to the TV? If not there could be a problem with the fine tune on the TV.
What kind of cable are you using betwen the VCR & the TV? Antenna, BNC/RCA, SCART, etc.?
Make/ model?

I've been keeping my Beta machines going since I chose them over VHS in the 80's
(And oh yeah, I invested the the CED laser discs too).
Resqueline pretty-much gave you the scoop.
It doesn't sound like you have any idea how to do alignment adjustments.
It'll run you $75 to $150 to have a TV repair shop (that still does Beta), look at it.
OR
You can do what I tell others to do.
Buy a working Beta Recorder off ebay, with the free buyers protection plan so you
don't get taken advantage of, for $50 or less.
You pay somebody to fix your existing machine, you gotta pay.
