Does anyone know where I can find a schematic for a circuit that blinks two LEDs alternately but not just on and off? I would like the light to come on and get brighter to full brightness and then quickly go off, the other LED do the same and repeat... Think of two fireflies. That is exactly what I am wanting to make. A green LED light for two creamic fireflies my wife is sculpting and firing in our kiln. I thought it would look great if the two looked as though they were blinking at each other and I was going to add a photo circuit so the LEDs only come on when it is dark in the room. I have some bi-stable multi-vibrator circuits that are easy enough. Would it be easy to modify to add the "ramp-up" LED intensity effect?

Thank you very much,

The circuit you want is an astable multivibrator (bistable means it has 2 fixed states as opposed to constantly changing).

You can achieve fade / ramping by using capacitors. Here is a free ebook with lots of handy circuits. It has several flashers, faders etc.

Great! Thank you. I will take a look. I can put these books on my Kindle.
