Bit off topic ...

Sorry but to reply to a message I can't keep any of the previous
message unless I retype the whole thing, I am using newsleecher and
when I reply all I get is a new box to type in :(. I am going to try
a later version soon, poss they have fixed this or am I doing
something wrong :s. I also tried a copy/paste but it is not allowed,
damn computers.
Also back to the digital problem, I am travelling out to the country
a lot and started moving out there, the repeater stations for the
free to air use some sorta digital repeater but retransmit on
analogue, That becomes evident when there is a storm, rain or any
other interference we get pic slicing and breakup. Looks weird on
analogue to me but they are used to it out there so my theory is if
they can't get it to work properly on their repeater stations how
can they get it right for normal transmissions. Another possibility
is that they don't worry about the small numbers in the country that
use this technology, Only about 500 people in the villiage and
situated about 100 kms from a major town. The powers to be tell us
that all this latest technology is better for us and that we "Want /
Need" all these channels so we can keep up in the world, I am sure
it is only to profit the major stations to allow more advertising
income from the channels. Remember U can only watch 1 channel at a
time and the rest of the time there is work to be done. All that is
required is a reliable service.

But I don't see why we should have to endure this at the cinema, where it
must be just about distribution costs ( and possibly being able to show
some live moronic football or somesuch occasionally ). 35mm film suffers
from no such problems, so if they are now using electronic projectors, and
this is as good as they're going to get ( coz I guess that the
micro-mirrors actually have significant inertial mass, as well as
suspension resistance, both of which which will limit the maximum
transition speed of them ), then I think that cinema has taken one giant
step backwards. It's not as if it's cheap to go. For the two of us, with a
bucket of post-mix Coke, that actually tasted like watered down toothpaste
died black, and a hot dog that did my stomach no good at all, we got about
20 pence change out of twenty quid. Compare this to the cinema we went to
in the U.S. a few weeks back, where the admission was $6.50 each, and that
came with a free sack of popcorn and about a gallon of very acceptable
Pepsi AND the film was shown from proper 35mm stock ...

<snip>

Where is that theatere? $6.50 and free popcorn!? I live in Orlando and would
definately go there for that.

Hi Mike
At Pointe Orlando towards the top of International. They've been refurbing
the whole complex for the last year or so - certainly over the period of our
last couple of visits, and when we were there a few weeks ago, we drove up
there to see how they were getting on. The rest of the complex is still far
from ready, but the cinema was back open. It used to be a Muvico, but it
seems to be owned by someone else now. I got the impression that it had only
just re-opened, so maybe it was just a promotional offer. We went to see
Spiderman on either the launch day or the day after. Anyway, six of us went
plus one child, and it was like $45, and we were each handed a voucher to
take over to the concession for a sack of popcorn and bucket of Pepsi - I
kid you not - they were that big ! The theatre itself was very nice, and
there was nothing about the presentation that I could fault. There was even
quite a crowd in there for an afternoon showing, but I guess that might have
been to do with it being launch day for the movie. It's been a bit 'static'
in the area for the last few years, but I see that Universal are building
Harry Potter Land now in 'Islands' for end 2008 I think it is, and that Sea
World are building a new water park on the opposite side of International to
where their marine park is.

We'll have to get together for a beer or something on my next trip.

Hi Michael, I probably will on our next visit, which I guess won't be until
next year now. Next visit we are planning is back to Vegas, probably in
October. Our daughter got married there a coupla years back, and we all try
to get back there for the aniversary each year. BTW, I'm surprised that you
have remained so restrained over that slating you got nearer the top of the
group on the 4th July ...

You didn't see me on the other newsgroups he spammed and slandered my
name! When he started damming US soldiers, I tore him a new one. I'll
bet his eyes are no longer brown, and that he has to stand for at least
a month before it heals properly. ;-)

Anyway, I've promised Leonard that I'd TRY to behave better on this
newsgroup. There are a few things I just can't ignore. :(

I haven't been frequenting many other groups lately, so didn't see any other
stuff from this bozo, but at least a couple of us jumped to your defense on
here - although I have to say that I was surprised that there wasn't a few
more. Sill, there's no figuring folk, as they say ...

Stay well

He finally shut up, after I pointed out that his comments damming US
soldiers for enlisting, and his calling the commander in chief a Nazi
would be archived for decades, and they aren't good for business.

Anyone who makes their living by diving in corporate dumpsters fro
obsolete networking equipment, that may never be able to sell anything
to the US Government.

The lack of support doesn't surprise me. Too many are afraid to take
a stand, one way or another.

That's a bit sad really, considering that Usenet is a community, and that
for the most part, this group tries to be friendly and helpful. Like most
groups, there are probably 20 of us who devote our time to trying to sort
out the problems of others, and I think that it's a bit of a poor show, when
more of the regulars (and lurkers) can't find it in themselves to step up to
the defence of one of the others ...
