Bosch power tools battery charger

I have this charger AL1419DV it has three pin , two are positive n negative on which battery sits while charging but there third pin n can’t figure out what for this is? I can’t find voltage between positive n negative so can I short this third pin as it has voltage ?battery is not charging n green led remains illuminated

The charger is for older chemistry ni-cad batteries.
The third wire is more than likely to sense battery temperature.
NO, do not short any wires or connections.
How do you know that the charger is faulty and not the OLD battery?. Have you tried charging another battery?.
