Breadboard coil safety question with Make before Break?

Hi - I am starting to experiment with inductors now.

But I am concerned about the high voltage upon breaking the circuit, since I will be experimenting with a wide range of coil sizes.

I don't want to blow up my DMMs or scope accidentally. Or at minimum blow the fuses and have to buy new ones.

Can someone advise me the schematic to rig up a decent make-before-break to protect my gear?

(I will experiment with DC but then will soon start to experiment with AC and reactance, resonance, etc.).

Thanks.

Not sure what "make before break" had to do with anything.

I think you're asking about what you see as a solution rather than the problem.

Sure it's possible that you can do damage with the energy stored in an inductor (just as you can with that stored in a capacitor) but more information is needed because it's far more likely you'll damage a semiconductor than a multimeter or your scope.
