google digital multimeter sales, you will get many hits
find one that does the things you want for the price you can afford
there are plenty of units less that US$50 that are reasonable quality
Heck the $2 ones from China will suit many hobbyist needs...
This one (or one of the many similar ones out of China) gives a lot of bang for the buck... No it's not a Fluke but it also doesn't carry the price tag...
And if you ever decide to upgrade to a better unit this is always a good stand by... As I have said multiple times I have a bunch of these cheap units... One in the garage, one in the trunk of the car, one in the house junk drawer and so on... This way for quick stuff like checking continuity or voltage there is always one handy and in the vicinity, no need to take the better ones off the work bench...
I would have to agree with you about the fluke not leaving the bench they are pricey. I have a walmart special in the garage and another in my barn. I got my fluke for work until they bought me one.
