Hi. So I need help with my car radio and don't know what it could be.
My FM car radio has tons of static when the engine is running, and pretty much only 1 station will come in. I the key is turned backwards the radio works fine.....I've checked the cables and everything seems fine. I never use to have any problems with it until about a year and a half ago. Does anyone know what it might could be? Thanks

Static as in a ticking sound which increases in frequency as revs increase is due to ignition noise.
Wirring noise like a siren, again increases as revs increase is alternator noise.

Both would normally be suppressed with (you guessed it) suppressors or capacitors sized for each application.
Mostly, modern day cars have suppressor type ignition high tension cables to eliminate noise.

Any of these gone faulty will give noise problems.
Also if the antenna has had the outer shield on the lead in cable broken/or...if the earthing at either end, (usually under the mudguard) is dirty or not making contact.
