hi,

i have a stack of six series super-capacitors (650 Farad each and 2.5V max).

I wish to charge them up with a 1 Amp charging current.

I wish to charge them up to 2.2V each (8.8V for the stack)

How do i ensure that during charging , and subsequent trickle-charging, no single capacitor suffers a voltage of greater than 2.5V?

I am thinking that there must be standard circuits for this?

An interesting question. I followed davenn's advice and found this. It's an interesting read.

I found a quite useful 888kB PDF file there, both from work & at home. You draw a blank there?

I'd settle for using high power 2.4V zeners (or making them up from four 1N4001 diodes each), for the sake of simplicity, unless tested & proven to be inadequate.

thanks mate, that one worked...
charging up lines of these caps isnt something I had really thought about. Obviously, others are as I see it a topic of interest across several electronic forums lately.
I mainly come across single ones in various gear I service that are purely supplying a small backup voltage for MPU's etc

cheers
