Hi

I'm looking for a cheap SMD tranformer to be used in a
pulse-transformer application.

Like this one: www.microdesign.dk/tmp/rf.pdf

Does anyone have a good source for an equivalent to this component?

(I have contaced Bourns, FerroxCube and ElyTone)

If this is for a cost sensitive high volume product I suggest to check
out Asian sources as well. One of them is Toko:
http://www.toko.co.jp/products/index_product_e.htm

They call all of them baluns but many have uncommitted windings. There
will be some Japanese on the data sheets but most of the data is in English.

Murata also has some products that might fit. Their web site, IIRC, was a
real pain to find anything with.

Here's a few more sites to look around at.

I am not sure if Murata really makes small SMT transformers of the
magnetic type. They do offer very nice common mode chokes though, I have
used them in designs many times.

Hello Klaus,

Well, they look kind of naked. But if they are cheaper, who cares?

There are many other sources. Most dipole antennas have a balun in there
and you can also buy them as separate parts. For my last one I paid
$1.29 and that was in a blister pack at the local hardware store. Water
proof with spade lugs and a coax jack. That would mean the actual
transformer inside couldn't have been more than 10 Cents.

For a client design I spec'd a core and windings for custom fab in
Taiwan. That was a lot cheaper than any of the off-the-shelf versions.
Just if you need tens of thousands of them.
