Hi i am builing a coil gun right now, and have a capacitor bank of nine 330v disposible camera flash capacitors. I would like to build a charger for these capacitors that will charge the bank with a 9v battery, and in about fifteen seconds, without damaging the charger. could anyone help me on how to do this, or give me blueprints on the subject? If you have anything it would be greatfully appreciated.

Do you want to charge the batteries up to only 9V?

I would like to charge the capacitors to their max capacity. there are 9 parallel wired 330v capacitors. i would like to charge them with a 9v battery. replace the old flash charger ciruit i was using out of the camera, with something more durable, and faster.

Are you prepared to wind your own transformer? How about using 3 identical chargers, outputs in paralell and inputs in series? That should charge the bank in 20 seconds.

If you have the rest of the disposable cameras you have all you need. Most of them run on 1.5V, so use D cells (1 per inverter) and connect their outputs together.

They should all be from the same type of camera (or at least have the same general construction so you can be reasonably sure this will work.

Start by paralleling 2 of them.

Remember that even one of these capacitors, fully charged, has enough energy to stop your heart if you shock yourself the "right" way. As you add more and more of them the risk increases dramatically.

So be VERY careful. Death is awfully permanent.

A small 9V battery has less energy in it than a single D cell (it's closer to 2 AA cells) so using that sort of battery will mean you need to replace it often.

thanks. so you would not recommend putting my own charger together, just use more camera parts combined? my chargers keep dying, and i am not sure exactly why, they start to make the whiny noise, go really high pitched, then die and spot working. any ideas?

I bet that they are designed to run on 1.5V ad you're running them on 3V, right?

And they are designed for a single AA?

Hey, if i wanted to take the needed aprts off of a few flash chargers, and just put them on my own board, could anyone draw out a diagram of how i could do this, and what i would need?
