Hi,

I'm a complete rookie at electronics and am in need of some help/direction for a project.

I need to somehow connect a photocell to a 3.5mm mono headphone jack, so that fluctuations in light can be transferred to Hz frequency.

Im not sure of what components I will need in between,or how to connect them. Can you help?
Thanks.:D

Yes, but tell us what you want to do.

And what type of "photocell" you have. (LDR, photovoltaic, photodiode, phototransistor, etc). Some would need external power, others have a lower output, etc...

I'm connecting the jack to a computer program so that the resistance, converted to Hz, will trigger reactions specified in a frequency range.

I have phototransistors. Are these ideal for my needs?

You will need an external voltage. The change in resistance of the phototransistor will not generate a signal.

This might help.
