Hi everybody,

I am trying to build a PID temperature controller. I have the thermocouple Amico PT 100

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BXECN4/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and the PID controller

My question is how to connect these two. This thermocouple has 3 wires, red, blue, and yellow. I think that yellow=plus, red=minus, but wtf is the blue one? The terminals 9 and 10 on the controller (see the pic) are denoted "Thermocouple + and -" and there is one more, number 8, which is connected to 9 via resistor. It is clear that "yellow" goes to "9" and "red" to "10,", but what to do with "8" and "blue"? I am tempted to just connect them and see what happens, but have not done that.

Any advice?

hi there,
welcome to the forums

OK the logical thing is that term 8 goes to the sensor output wire

BUT before you connect anything you must identify the colours on the probe correctly else it may have a VERY short life

That resistor shown on the back of the controller will most likely be denoting the actualy thermocouple within the probe

cheers
