I replaced the NICAD pack in my ATT&T cordless phone with a new pack built up from NIMH a couple years ago. I rarely leave this phone on the charger for extended periods of time because I believe this is dumb charger (or at least the packs have been hot before when you would pick up the phone if left on overnight).

Weird thing is that the phone will give a low battery alert on the pack. You can pull the battery pack out for a few minutes and then re-insert it. Low battery message gone and now battery indicator shows full charge. I have also ran a voltage meter to the 3-Cell pack when the phone said Low Battery and the pack has been over 4 volts!

I'm beginning to question how these phones decide if a battery is low. Anyone else have this issue with NIMH substitutes? I don't see how it can do this by voltage. Perhaps this phone is trying to measure the time on a NICAD cell?
