I'm reading a basic book on electronics, and at the point concerning filters, they wrote that -

'At resonance, w^2 = 1/(LC) or f = 1 / (2 pi root (LC)) , M=R, and Theta = 0.'

(Where w = omega)

I'm not sure what resonance is. Also, what are M and Theta?

Thanks much.

A pendulum on a clock runs at a resonant frequency. At the one extremety, the pendulum weight will be slightly hgher and so will have potential energy. As the pendulum swings across it will have kinetic energy. There will be an interchange of potential and kinetic energy until resistance stops the movement.

Any resonant system works by interchanging energy from one type to another. In the case of an LC resonant circuit, the energy is either stored in the capacitor as electrical charge or in the inductor as magnetic energy. The resonant frequency is described by the equation you have given.

You will need to give more information on M and R. Theta is normally used as a measure of angle.
