Without specifically mentioning that a measurement would have to be
made, your post implied that a 1% resistance could be obtained by
connecting appropriately valued 5% resistors right out of the box.
That is, let's say you wanted a 101 ohm resistance. From your post
it would seem that merely connecting a 100 ohm 5% and a 1 ohm 5%
resistor in series would get you there.
