I test a small alarm for current leakage with the switch in the OFF position.

It showed a drain of 2 uA.

Is that typical ?

You would have to open the device to see if the switch really
disconnects the internal circuitry. It wouldn't surprise me if there was
a large cap on the DC input before the switch.

You also have to determine if the switch is even a switch in the literal
sense of the word. To keep cost down, many switches are just a means to
send a signal to the circuitry to wake up or not.

The caps are not labeled, so I suspect they are bottom of the barrel stuff. :)

I saw a procedure for determining the Farads, but it looked rather involved.

Where's it getting its power and how long was it on when you took the reading?

Power from 3 AA batteries

5 Seconds before I took the reading.

Maybe,maybe not; how was the test done? Schematic?
