Hi. About 14 years ago, we bought a Taiwan drill/mill at auction, but we didn't notice it was powered by a DC motor. New AC motor mounted, and mill was serviceable. All those years, the 5 hp DC motor was lying dormant, until now. Unfortunately, it's a shunt-wound motor instead of a permanent magnet one. But, after reading comments in an old thread here, I connected the field circuit in parallel with the load circuit. And now, she makes about 8 VDC. I spun the commutator/rotor with compressed air. I plan to mount the generator atop a heavy-duty steel pole, with the shaft vertical. I'll make a fan array out of snow shovels, which will spin horizontally. We have lots of wind on the Orygun coast! Chris.
