I am looking for a digital thermometer with separate wireless probe so I can
read temperature readings outside with the digital display inside the house.
Most of the units I'm finding online don't have the greatest reviews,
especially when the temps get cold. If anyone here has suggestions for a
decent unit, I would appreciate it. thanks

I use an older Oregon Scientific unit -- old enough that it has fallen
out of the catalog so that says something about the reliability --
paired with a THGR122NX remote temperature/humidity sensor. Works fine
all year and is stingy with batteries. Of course, cold in Virginia isn't
"cold" in many other places but I'm happy with it.

I have a 14 year old Radio Shack indoor/outdoor digital thermometer, but
it uses wire to connect to the probe. The wire just goes through the
window, it's been working fine all this time.

I have no idea if that sort of thing is still being made, but surely the
wire takes out the need for batteries in the remote sensor, and any
problems from interference to the radio signal from the sensor. You do
have to arrange things so you can put the inside unit near a window, but
people have gotten too fussy about what they "need" and thus seek things
that may not always be the best solution.

I am looking for a digital thermometer with separate wireless probe so...

I have LA CROSSE. Stay away from it. It stops reading the remote every once
in the while. I have to take the batteries out and put them back in to get
it going. This of course loses min/max readings and clock has to reset.

Surf over to Radio Shack's web site at www.radioshack.com and search for
keyword thermometer. They have several wireless indoor-outdoor thermometers
listed. I have one that I bought from them about 10 years ago, and it's
still working. I have to change batteries in the outdoor sensor about every
2-3 years. It has worked in temperatures as low as 8 degrees F.

I second this. Radio shack is somehow still king when it comes to great
thermometers. If you want something better, it's going to cost hundreds
and you're going to have to piece it together from some industrial control
catalog, and it will still lack the min/max memory stuff.

Probably too far apart or some stuff (like a furnace) in the way.
Try relocating either to get a better connection.

That was the problem I had.

Radio Shack is just a rebrand of someone else.
Does anybody know who?

One of my RS units shows up on-line as a reference picture but I cannot
find the manual anywhere. Tried wayback machine but no luck. Is there
a graveyard for those manuals?

BTW if you get a full blown weather station that will work but ya gotta
pay a lot cor one. Google for weather stations.

yes, email radio shack.

no shit- they sent me the full spec sheet on an LED from years ago. They
keep all sorts of weird product data forever.
