Have a 12v dc motor which operates a car headlight door (1987 Sunbird GT). I applied 12v directly from battery and it does not respond. Here is a link to the exact type of motor:

Where would one begin in determining exactly what is the culprit with a no start/run motor? Brushes? Commutator? Other? I have no such experience, but am willing to try.
