I am curious as to what the inside of a step down transformer such as
those on an Edison pole look like. Are there any diagrams or photos on
the web? I'm not sure I am searching with the right description.

They have iron and copper like other xfrms,
but to keep them cool they are filled with dielectric oil
to transfer the heat out to the case and on to atmosphere.
Years ago, the oil had PCBs (not printed circuit boards)
and were the cause of much pollution
due to sloppy manufacturing processes and immoral disposal techniques.

The best bet would be a search for pics of manufacturing plant operations
where the units are still open (Westinghouse, Square D?).

Was it immoral or just ignorant? Or lazy? Just wondering.

I was brought up with the belief that
people have a spidey-sense about what's right and what's wrong.

Catholics call it guilt.

People who don't have it are sociopaths.
