Hello from Penn's woods,

I got two new laptop batteries recently which came with instructions on
completely discharging the batteries. But I can not find any power related
options in Windows 10 that relates to their instructions.

The instructions are:
"Set the Power Supply option first. Right click on the screen
and select Property->Screen Saver->Power Supply->
Power Use Schame->Portable.

In all the subsequent operations such as When Computer
and Use Battery, select Never. Under Alert option, deselect Alert
for deficient battery and Alert for serious battery shortage."

The instructions continue with exhausting and recharging the battery.
And then resetting the computer options back to the defaults. The say one
should do this every two or three months.

Does anyone have any idea how to do this in Windows 10?

thanks.

Just run the battery down until the system alarms for 'low battery'.

Shut down and let the battery fully charge.

The idea is to prevent the battery obtaining a 'memory effect' that happens when you only PARTIALLY discharge a battery i.e. recharge it when it drops to only half-full (or 3/4 full or whatever).

Batteries need to be WORKED and running them down to a low(ish) level before recharging them is always the best way to ensure longevity.

If lithium-ion, no memory according to the batteryuniversity site.
Working the battery initially probably has something to do with the state of charge when they are supplied and shipped, the latter making some sense given their sometimes volatile nature.
I have used quite a few which initially require this cycling but as kellyseye says, no real need to change any of the laptop settings, just cycle to the low warning then recharge several times.
Again, if lithium-ion according to battery university, it is normal to get longer life by not deep cycling after the initial process is complete.
