Hi
I got solar panels fitted. I got them fitted with a government scheme. I
got them fitted and I never got a display unit fitted, I don't know if the
panels are working, I presume they are. I phoned up the company who fitted
the panels, but the said I have to pay more than £ 250 or more to get a
display unit. I just don't know if I can use the panel without the unit.
When the fitted the panels they never told/show me how it works. Last week I
got an electric bill foe £322 and I only use it when its not light. So no
unit no solar panel. So what do I do? I am disabled and I thought it would
reduce my bills not increase it. I complained to the company about the
display unit and they told me to buy one. I would but which one?

any solutions out there

That is what the MPPT Charge Controller is supposed to deal with....
It allows one to have just about ANY Panel Buss Voltage up to the Input
Voltage Limit of the Controller, and then provide Three State Battery
Charging, at the Battery bank Buss voltage which will be the same as the
Inverter Input Voltage. This is how the BIG BOYS design Solar Systems,
using quality components, Like OutBack Power Systems stuff. Look up the
spec's on an FM80 Outback Charge Controller....

BTW: "BUSS' is a manufacturer's name and not anything defined in a
dictionary as an electrical component Common error of electrical people..

Something that travels from one place to another is a "Bus"

You may not even have a MPPT circuit. You may want to get a readout panel to
view what is going on or for the money just get a knowledgeable electrician
to come in and check things out (that doesn't work for the install people)
or you may want to just buy a meter to do that yourself, if you are
electrically adept.

The second opinion may be a good idea to make sure you didn't get ripped
off. After the novelty wears off the panel may be just a piece of junk you
will never pay for with your future panel production. Most systems will
never "break even" without government subsidies.
