Dunno, never had that problem to begin with, so can't speak to it.
When the owner of Desert alarm died I picked up a lucrative model home
program for a builder he had been working with. Dave had installed DMP
XR20s in the models. I tried to contact DMP about continuing to use DMP
panels in that development and if it worked out maybe using DMP in other
locations as well. They gave me the run around and I just gave up and
jerked the DMP panels and put in Napco panels which Napco was glad to give
me for free. I wound up putting about 160 Napco panels in that development,
and another 30 or 40 in other homes for that builder.
A couple years later when I bought out the accounts left with Desert Alarm
from Dave's widow I contacted DMP again, and at first got the run around,
and then they tried to manipulate me into committing to using only DMP
panels before I could even buy one new panel to play with and see if I liked
it. (I had the pulled panels still on the shelf, but had not played with
them.) They also tried to old support hostage to do this even though they
didn't have anybody else in the area who could service the DMP panels
installed in Yuma.
After much hullaballoo several months and dealing with four or five
different people I was told I was setup with an open terms account and I
could buy some stuff whenever I was ready. It was not an easy or pleasant
process to even get to that point. In the mean time I had solved most of my
issues with the DMP panels in service including programming access without
any help from them. I tried a couple times to actually order parts on that
account, and each time I was told I needed to do something else. I finally
went ballistic. I got ahold of Dave Sharp who said that he had decided to
change my account to COD (I was already approved for net terms by their
credit people) and servicing dealer only, but I still had to make an opening
order and jump through some hoops to get all setup. (This literally took
about 4 or 5 months) The things I had needed to order during that time I
had gotten elsewhere or third sourced. Dave suggest I buy a demo keypad
from them, and all would be wonderful for the future. I didn't need or want
it, and I couldn't understand why he was trying to sell a demo keypad to
somebody he would not sell panels to. (servicing dealers can only buy
replacement parts) In the interest of future trade and supporting my
clients I bit the bullet and gave Dave my credit card number to buy the
suggested demo keypad anyway. All I ordered was the demo keypad. NOTHING
ELSE. That's when the fight started. I called him and challenged the
charges and the fact that I did not order everything he sent me and charged
me for. He said he would be by my office in a couple weeks to pick up the
extras and then refund my money. That never happened.
I finally after several years just recently got a check from Dave for things
I did not order that were charged to my credit card.
I kept a file on this process just in case anybody ever wanted to try and
dispute what I had to say. I'm sure its in storage, but I wouldn't hesitate
to spend a day digging it out to post documents publicly if I needed to.
In all fairness. Dave did finally pay me back. It just took several years.
