hi,
I am making a digital voice recorder with lots of added functionality
like USB, bar code scanning, external memory interfacing, lcd, buttons
etc. Which general purpose DSP chip would be good for the job. Being
portable, I though the TI 5000 series would be a good bet.
1) Can you guys suggest other companies and their
advantages/disadvantages?
2) For the voice compression algorithm, I wanted to use SPEEX (
http://www.speex.org ), but im not sure how stable it is to use. Has
anyone got any experience with using it?

Thanx
Kunal

Have a look at comp.dsp. There were several discussions in the past.
