Dear all:
Iam trying to help someone fix an old x-box game console - however I do
not have any background on electronic safety - does anyone know of a
good website that I can go to for this type of information? It would be
best if it had information on safety tips for opening household
products like a radio.

thank you and have a wonderful holiday!
al ;)

There's is a vast amount of information on the Internet and your local
library on electrical/electronic safety. You can find a lot of references
online by searching for the keywords "electrical safety" (e.g.
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&q=electrical+safety).

As far as electronics goes, they're sensitive to static electricity, so if
you're working on a computer, for example, ground your hand against the
metal frame to rid yourself of any static electricity. Probably one of the
most lethal aspects of electronics is capacitors with high capacitance.
(e.g. TVs are very dangerous to work with). This doesn't even scratch the
surface of the topic of electronic safety, but likewise, you can find more
information on the web (e.g.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=electronics+safety).

Always make sure components are unplugged before dismantling.

Hope that helps.

simple:
- keep it closed if you don't have electric/electronic skills
- if you have the skills, you'll probably know to unplug the device before
opening
- if plugged, stay away from it if you don't know what you are measuring
- if measuring, always use insulated probes and be carefull not to short
anything

it's as easy as that
